Hello and welcome back to Football Manager Ambition.
I've just got a quick update for you this time on the pre-season progress (or lack thereof) before the big kick-off for season 2028-29.
After pulling in five trophies last season, including retaining the Premier League, I thought this might be my year for completing my ambition (for those of you new to the blog, the Football Ambition save is aiming to fill my team SWFC with England internationals, so that the England team contains only SWFC players. It's proven tricky so far).
Before I get into the detail, though, it's time for...
GREAT FOOTBALL MANAGER QUOTES
"When you've got a mountain to climb, you may as well throw everything into the kitchen sink."
~David Pleat, being David Pleat.
I've tried throwing everything at the transfer market in the close season, but overall I've been really disappointed. Regular visitors to the blog will be familiar with #Fullergate. Shane Fuller is Chelsea's world-class midfielder that I've been trying to sign since dinosaurs roamed the Earth. I've been knocked back repeatedly, but when I saw this message pop up, I thought maybe something had changed at Chelsea...
Dele Alli - knocking on a bit, but still a great player - moves from Real Madrid to Chelsea. did that mean they were preparing to lose Fuller?
And to make things worse, I got knocked back with most of my other attempts to bring in a big name England international or two...
I couldn't even land a development player I was after...
However, I did manage to get my hands on this lad:
So I still made a pretty big splash in the transfer market...
So, how does that leave me in terms of my ambition? Well, here's the current England squad...
My full transfer activity in the window is thus...
Pre-season fixtures have gone okay for the most part, although frustration has crept in with both my star striker and my number one left-back wanting to move away. They're going nowhere. Sorry lads.
Losing the Charity Shield burned a bit as well.
The opening fixtures in the league all look very winnable, so I'm hopeful that things will settle down in the dressing room after a while. Winning often makes players change their minds about wanting to move clubs.
I've still got plenty of money in the bank that I just can't spend, so we'll see what happens in January!
So that's pre-season done! Next time, I'll have another Tactics School for you, focusing on full-backs and wing-backs, along with an update on the save, and another great football manager quote.
See you then!
