Well this is rather embarrassing; the first time (at least to my knowledge) that I have made a major mistake with the facts. Tomorrow sees the fifth round of the Cupa României and I previously blogged that Snagov will be playing Craiova's Liga 3 side. This is not the case. Snagov are actually playing the current holders of the Cupa României, U Craiova.
So how did this mistake come about? Well, as I've posted about several Romanian clubs the history and naming of many clubs is complex. Clubs are created and then change their names several times and go out of business before being reborn under a slightly different name. I obtain my fixture information from several different sites but one of them appears to have put the wrong Craiova team in the fixture listings. If you check the image on the linked article, it shows Snagov were due to play U Craiova 1948; the Liga 3 side. However, that same site now shows the fixture as Snagov against Universitatea Craiova. See the images below:
The first draw I read for the fifth round.
The second version of the draw now online.
So in my defence it appears that the mistake was not entirely mine, but I did copy over incorrect information and I apologise for that error.
Moving on to the match itself. The Liga 1 Craiova are the current holders of the Cupa României and will be a difficult nut to crack. From what I can tell, the match has been moved to Craiova's Ion Oblemenco Stadium.
Ion Oblemenco is a beautiful stadium, only recently built at a cost of over fifty-million Euros.
The journey from Snagov to Craiova is over a distance of roughly 261km. By road, this will take approximately four hours. Following in the theme of family and community, the leaders of Sportul Snagov have agreed to arrange free transport for any Snagov fan who wants to attend the match.
Unfortunately I will be working when the game kicks off but I will be keeping a sneaky eye on the progress of the match and will be cheering on Snagov from here in the U.K. I hope all Snagov fans, players, and the backroom staff have a safe trip to Craiova and come back with a win.
