Looking back over the last week I've been really bad in my eating habits. In fairness, it has been a very stressful week. For the past few months I've been going through a very complicated and drawn out break up. However, things may be looking up on that front. The only problem is my girlfriend's family do not approve of the relationship and they found out about us starting again in a less than ideal manner. Suffice it to say, it's been a very emotional week.
I'm a firm believer that physical and mental health go hand in hand. I don't think that one depends on the other, but rather I view the relationship as a symbiotic one. If you struggle in your mental health I believe it more likely you will struggle in your physical health. I also believe the same can be said of good and bad habits. If you have good physical habits, then it promotes good mental habits. For example; a good sleeping pattern (physical) will help with concentration and problem solving abilities (mental).
In the last week I've had a few takeaways and have snacked a little more than I should. Long hours in the office, emotional and stressful events and just general exhaustion (physical) have led to poor decision making (mental) in my eating habits. Instead of throwing some pasta in a pan and having a simple meal, I can open my mobile and order a pizza for delivery; a pizza that will contain approx. 2,000 calories.
I always find that when things are in danger of spinning out of control it is always best to try and find an anchor to build around. It has to be something simple and something that can act as a foundation. In this case, the answer is a good breakfast each day. Last week my breakfast each day consisted of a latte at my desk due to the time I started work. This coming week I have a bit of a later start. I'm going to aim to have a good, healthy breakfast to start the day. By taking control of the first thing I do in the morning, this should help with both the physical and mental habits.
